Discovering Serbia

You may (or not) know that every now and then I spend some days in my home country, Serbia. Well, that's what happened last month although this time my visit was very short. Still, the weekend was reserved for something different because I went on a little road trip. It was a beautiful, warm autumn day, perfect for enjoying it somewhere outside. First stop was Viminacium, one of the most important cities of this part of the ancient Roman Empire in a period between 1st and 4th century. There is much to be discovered yet, but these days you can see the mausoleum, tombs, domus, thermal baths and amphitheater. A special star of this place which doesn't have anything in common with Romans, but which is slowly becoming a symbol of Viminacum, is a completely preserved skeleton of a mammoth called Vika who lived 1 million years ago! It's one of the 3 preserved mammoths in Europe. The next and last stop was a nearby lake called Silver Lake, one of the popular touristic spots in the country. It's called silver because of the silver reflections that it gets from the sun in the afternoon. Its wooden houses and gardens inspired by fairy tales are the cutest thing I've seen! So no matter if you live in Serbia or you're planing to visit it, you can spend a weekend like I did. For more ideas like this, check out THIS post from last summer.
